Your next client might not start their search on Google.
They might open ChatGPT and ask:
“Where can I get a good balayage near me?”
Or:
“Find me a highly rated massage near Amsterdam.”
“What’s the best nail salon in my area?”
“Where can I book a facial this weekend?”
This is already becoming part of the way people discover local businesses.
In 2026, research from BrightLocal found that 45% of consumers surveyed had used AI tools for local business recommendations. And in the beauty and wellness industry, platforms such as Fresha are already making it possible for clients to discover available services through AI assistants including ChatGPT and Claude.
That doesn’t mean Google is disappearing.
It means your beauty business now needs to be easy to understand everywhere clients — and AI — might look for it.
So, can ChatGPT actually find your salon?
Try it.
Open ChatGPT and ask something a potential client might genuinely ask:
“Recommend a hair salon in [your city].”
Then make it more specific:
“Where can I get curly hair extensions in [your city]?”
“Find me a beauty salon offering head spa treatments near [location].”
Does your business appear?
Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn’t.
And even if it appears today, AI recommendations can vary between platforms, searches and users. The goal isn’t to “rank number one on ChatGPT”.
The goal is much simpler:
Make your business easy for search engines, AI systems and potential clients to understand and trust.
1. Make it very clear what your business actually does
This sounds obvious, but many beauty websites make visitors work surprisingly hard to understand their services.
A homepage saying:
Welcome to our world of beauty and relaxation
might sound beautiful.
But it doesn’t clearly explain what you offer.
Your website should communicate things such as:
Hair salon in Almere
Balayage and colour specialist
Head spa treatments
BIAB nails
Massage and wellness treatments
The more specific and consistent your information is, the easier it becomes for both people and search technologies to understand your business.
2. Don’t neglect your Google Business Profile
AI search does not mean local SEO suddenly stops mattering.
Your Google Business Profile remains an important part of your digital presence.
Check that your:
- business name is correct
- address and location are accurate
- opening hours are updated
- services are listed
- website is linked
- booking link works
- photos represent your current business
If your website says one thing and your business profiles say something different, you’re creating unnecessary confusion.
Keep the basics consistent.
3. Reviews are becoming even more valuable
When someone asks for the best salon, spa or beauty professional nearby, reputation matters.
Reviews help potential clients decide whether they trust you, but they also create useful information about your business.
A client writing:
“Amazing salon!”
is nice.
A genuine review saying:
“I came here for balayage and curly hair styling and loved the result”
provides much more context.
Never tell clients exactly what to write, but make it easy for happy clients to leave honest reviews about their experience.
And keep asking for reviews regularly.
A collection of recent, authentic reviews is much stronger than dozens of reviews that haven’t been updated for years.
4. Give every important service a proper place on your website
If one of your main services only appears inside a long price list, you may be missing an opportunity.
Important services deserve their own clear information.
For example:
Hair Botox
Explain what it is, who it is for, what clients can expect and how they can book it.
Head Spa
Explain the treatment, benefits, duration and location.
Hair Extensions
Explain the extension methods you offer, consultation process and maintenance.
This is useful for clients.
It is also much easier for search engines and AI systems to understand than a website containing only beautiful images and very little information.
5. Make booking ridiculously easy
Getting discovered is only half of the job.
Imagine someone finds your salon, likes your reviews, visits your website…and then has to send a DM asking:
“Do you have availability?”
Every extra step creates friction.
A clear Book Now button should take clients directly to the right place.
Ideally, they should be able to:
- choose a service
- see availability
- select a time
- provide their details
- pay a deposit when required
- receive confirmation automatically
Your marketing has done its job.
Don’t let a complicated booking process lose the client at the final step.
6. Think beyond Instagram
Instagram is excellent for showing your work.
But your entire online presence shouldn’t depend on it.
A potential client might discover you through:
Google → Instagram → website → reviews → booking
Another might start with:
ChatGPT → website → Google reviews → booking
And another:
friend recommendation → Instagram → Google → booking
Modern discovery is rarely one straight line.
Beauty businesses need a digital presence in which these pieces support each other.
A simple AI visibility check for your beauty business
You don’t need an expensive AI strategy to start.
Check these five things:
1. Can someone immediately understand what you do from your website?
2. Are your location, services and business information consistent online?
3. Is your Google Business Profile complete and current?
4. Are clients regularly leaving genuine reviews?
5. Can someone easily book after finding you?
If the answer to one or more is no, start there.
AI search is changing. The fundamentals aren’t.
There will be plenty of new terminology around AI visibility, generative search and optimisation.
Small beauty businesses don’t need to chase every new acronym.
You still need to make your business:
Easy to find. Easy to understand. Easy to trust. Easy to book.
The difference is that the places where clients discover you are expanding.
Google matters.
Instagram matters.
Your website matters.
Reviews matter.
And now AI-assisted discovery deserves a place on that list too.
